The Iberian Peninsula has been famous for centuries for its brave bulls or fighting cattle. There is little to eat and only the
fittest survive. As we study Greek history and hear about the Minotaurs. We have a little understanding of what is going on in
Spain today. Most people aren’t aware that Spain still has the Minotaurs. There are still young people vaulting over bulls just
like all the old Greek mythology but it is today not yesterday. It is still alive and well. I don’t have much cattle experience let alone
fighting bull experience. People just said the fighting bulls won’t hurt you as long as you are on horseback. They are afraid of horses.
One day I was riding in the pasture and a fighting cow approached me. Normally they come running when they think you are going
to feed them. In theory if they are afraid of horses and I was on a horse they should run away. As the cow approached me, I guided
my horse toward her thinking she would run away. I was dead wrong; instead of running away she charged me. Romantico, my horse,
I know had learned the hard way how to get along with these fighting cows. One day Romantico and Puntero came galloping up to
the farm. Puntero, Romantico’s mate went right through the gate he was so frightened. As I approached the cow she charged us
instead of running away. She obviously wasn’t approaching us for food. I didn’t know what to do. I loosened the reins, grabbed Romantico’s
mane and said Romantico get me out of here. With one kick we flew across the meadow faster than you could blink an eye. We left
the cow in the dust. Someone forgot to tell me when cows have just had a baby they will protect the baby until death. I hadn’t noticed
the cow had left her baby on the trail! She was protecting her baby. Romantico knew what it was all about and took me to safety.
